Ford V Ferrari (2019)
Starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, Oscar-nominated film Ford v. Ferrari tells the story of how Ford planned to build the GT40, a race car that was American-made and hopefully going to defeat the racing team of Ferrari, who had dominated different car races (including the 24 Hours of Le Mans) for years. In the ‘60s, there was an unexpected rivalry between Ford and Ferrari. Speed was not something people associated with the American company, and Ford was certainly the underdog in the world of racing. Originally, the starring roles were to be played by Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, but the plan fell through.
Dolemite Is My Name (2019)
Eddie Murphy showed in Dolemite Is My Name how good of an actor he really is. The comedian played the filmmaker Rudy Ray Moore in the biographical comedy-drama. Moore’s best-known work is playing Dolemite, a faux persona he developed for his standup comedy. Ultimately, the role became a vehicle for several blaxploitation films. Dolemite Is My Name told the story of Moore’s entry into filmmaking and his experiences as a struggling artist working in a record store. The Netflix movie shows how he created his famous character in addition to the pitfalls of fame. Many consider Moore as the “Godfather of Rap.”
