It may surprise some that Cruise decided to leave the “Iron Man” production in 2004. Cruise had been initially linked to the Marvel film as both an actor and producer. Although he went with his gut, Cruise would periodically wonder what might have been given the success of the “Iron Man” franchise. He subsequently said, “As it was lining up, it just didn’t feel to me like it was gonna work.” Nevertheless, we can all agree that Robert Downey Jr., the actor who played Iron Man in the end, did a fantastic job.

Tom Cruise has a well-earned reputation as an action star, and he never lets his love of speed and excitement end when the cameras aren’t rolling. In fact, when he appeared on “Top Gear” in 2010, Cruise recorded the quickest lap time on the leaderboard for celebrities, almost flipping his car in the process. Fortunately, he was unharmed by the experience. It’s obvious that for Cruise, adrenaline and intensity are a way of life, both on and off the screen. Even professional racecar driver Ben Collins was amazed by Cruise’s skills, pronouncing him his favorite participant and called the encounter the “highlight of his career.”
