We may be able to drink our countrymen beneath the table, but the risky behavior ends there. We are a country that will give a movie a lower rating if it shows a man softly making love to his wife than if it shows the same man viciously murdering his wife with a baseball bat in slow motion. If someone complains in an art gallery that the woman in a Raphael painting isn’t covered, that person is most likely American.

Even when it’s not really hot outside, Americans adore wearing shorts. Shorts are appropriate for children in India, for example. You won’t be chastised, but they will think you’re strange for wearing shorts as an adult. Consider an adult man in New York City wearing a child’s Spider-Man backpack. It’s just not done.
