In one moment of “Rain Man,” the spectator can see the number 3762 on the car’s windshield, which is really the date of Tom Cruise’s birth: July 3, 1962. Filmmakers frequently like incorporating hidden meanings into their films, and this is also true of “Rain Man.” There is more to this, though, than just a fun Easter egg. The film is based on a true story involving Tom Cruise’s father and brother; the father has autism and went through circumstances that are portrayed in the movie through Raymond Babbitt’s character.

Where It Started
Tom Cruise was born in Syracuse, New York, on July 3, 1962, and raised in the nearby community of Glen Falls. He went to Glen Falls High School, where he already displayed an interest in performing. In fact, Cruise’s love of acting was sparked by a high school teacher who encouraged him to try out for the school production of “Guys and Dolls.” After landing the lead role of Nathan Detroit, Cruise realized that acting was his vocation.
